As the 2024 elections on Nov. 5 approach, Door County Knock has compiled dates to remember for the voting process, as well as voter education and voter registration events. Continue reading below for more information.
Election dates to remember
- Sept. 18 – Deadline for county clerks to deliver ballots and supplies to municipal clerks
- Sept. 19 – Deadline for municipal clerks to send absentee ballots to voters with requests on file
- Sept. 19 – All absentee ballots must be recorded in WisVote
- Oct. 8 – Electors changing addresses after this date must vote from their prior address
- Oct. 14 – First day to conduct absentee voting in nursing homes and care facilities
- Oct. 16 – Deadline for voters to register to vote via mail or online. Must register in person after this date.
- Oct. 22 – Clerks can issue in-person absentee ballots at clerk’s office
- Oct. 26 – First day for clerks to conduct public test of voting machines. Notice of testing must be posted 48 hours prior to test
- Oct. 28 – Last day for special voting deputies to make arrangements with nursing homes and care facilities for absentee voting
- Oct. 31 – Deadline for regular and overseas voters to request absentee ballots by mail
- Nov. 1 – Deadline to register to vote in clerk’s office
- Nov. 4 – Last day for special deputies to conduct absentee voting in nursing homes and care facilities
- Nov. 5 – Election Day! All absentee ballots to be returned by mail or delivered to municipal clerks by 8 p.m.
Events for voter awareness, education and registration:
Oct. 2 – The Election Process in Wisconsin and Door County
1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the Northeast Wisconsin Technical College Learning and Innovation Center, 2438 S. Bay Shore Dr., Sister Bay.
Door County Clerk Jill Lau will explain the workings of elections in Wisconsin and Door County and answer audience questions at this free public forum.
Oct. 7 – Door County League of Women Voters-sponsored Candidate Forum: Assembly District 1
6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., Southern Door High School, 2073 County Rd DK
Candidates for Wisconsin 1st Assembly District including incumbent Rep. Joel Kitchens (R-Sturgeon Bay), and challenger Renee Paplham (D-Kewaunee) will answer questions in a LWVDC-moderated forum. Door County residents can email potential questions for the candidates to [email protected] by October 1. Please put “Forum Question” in the subject line. - Sept. 17 – National Voter Registration Day, 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at HealthyWay Market, 216 S. 3rd Ave., Sturgeon Bay
- Sept. 25 – 10 a.m. to noon, at NWTC Sturgeon Bay, 229 N 14th Ave, Sturgeon Bay
- Oct. 3 – 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at ADRC, 916 N 14th Ave, Sturgeon Bay.
